Fostex R8 capstan shaft

This is the shaft from the very famous R8.

Its sold as it comes, not cleaned or rubbed down etc

Thats because there is a big disagreement between various Tape people about the best way to clean them, some (like me) use a pinch roller with a 400 grit on and then a finer one and run the machine a while, others think you need to have them blasted, others think they should be skimmed and re- etched.

So I am selling them as they are and YOU decide the best way forward.

To get them out you need to place the capstan wheel over a vice etc and then with a press you push them down and they pop out, maybe a hammer (owch) but thats how they come out pressure to be put from the back side, just that side should be a little rounded not squashed but its very hard metal, we use a ten ton press with a curve on it maybe better to take them from the front back
